I was approached by art director and kayak designer Pelle Stavshede, who was gearing up to launch his new kayak series—VÄRMDÖ. Pelle originally started MELKER Kayaks in his hometown of Karlstad, but after finding his love here in Gustavsberg, naming the new line VÄRMDÖ just felt right.
When Pelle reached out, only prototypes of the new series were available, so capturing photos of a fully finished kayak wasn’t possible yet. Instead, I received CAD models of all their kayaks and I photographed the materials and details of their prototypes, using these references to recreate everything in 3D.
Just as we wrapped up the images for the entire lineup, Pelle headed down to an adventure expo in France, where he took home the award for Sea Kayak of the Year—with none other than the new VÄRMDÖ model, inspired by his love story.
