“Volvo Amazon 1967” 3D modeling

Rendering 3D cars has always been THE thing for 3D artists and today CG cars are used in almost every other car commercial or advertising.

You can of course purchase high quality 3D models of almost any car today, but spending the time to 3D model a car from scratch — and analyzing all the shapes and trying to model all the details — that was such a learning experience.

I started off by gathering lots of reference images of the car
— a Volvo Amazon 1967.

I wasn’t able to find very good blueprints showing all the views and details, so I went purchasing a large scale Volvo Amazon toy police car to use as reference. I photographed it to use as guides for my 3D modeling, but it was also very good to have a physical model that I could analyze from any angle I was working on.
